Don Fortune
Growing up, Don knew he wanted to be a sports broadcaster. When he was 17 years old, Don won a contest doing play-by-play announcing for three innings of a New York Yankees game. "That jump started my career. The bug bit me and I knew this was what I was going to do," explained Don. Don serves as the host of the State Farm Legends Luncheons in Kansas City. These luncheons feature Buck O'Neil and guests from both the Negro and Major Leagues. The proceeds of these luncheons go to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, just as the sales of the Best of Buck cd's do. Tony Wrisinger, Project Coordinator of the Best of Buck said, " Don has told me that his hosting of the State Farm Legends Luncheons is the most enjoyable event he has participated in during his sports journalism career. He is the consummate professional and a true gem of a person. We could not have had a better person do the job that Don did for us. He is a true friend of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. He is "Top Shelf". |
